New Year, New You: Book Your Mommy Makeover Now

When it comes to a Mommy Makeover—which includes a breast lift and possibly implants, a tummy tuck, and liposuction—January is the best time to schedule a consultation. Here are 3 reasons to book your Mommy Makeover now:

1) You need to give yourself plenty of Mommy Makeover healing time.

Mommy Makeover involves a series of procedures performed during one surgery. These procedures can help restore the youthful look of a woman’s body after having children. Pregnancy, childbirth, and breastfeeding can bring about changes to the body that can’t be fully restored with diet and exercise.

This procedure involves a breast lift and/or implants, a tummy tuck to give you more defined abs, and liposuction in areas that don’t respond to diet and exercise (e.g., on the back, knees, and thighs). After this surgery, it typically takes six weeks to three months to get back on your feet and fully recover. More importantly, you want to be sure that the incisions, swelling, and any bruising are healed in time for shorts and bathing suit season.

What’s Involved With a Mommy Makeover?

This is what you can expect during a Mommy Makeover, a surgical procedure that I’ve performed on many women in their 30s, 40s, and 50s:

  • A breast lift/implants: Breasts lose volume and the skin begins to lose elasticity with age, but childbirth and breastfeeding can speed up this process. Implants can help restore your cup size, and a breast lift can remove excess skin resulting in perkier, more youthful breasts. I also move the nipple higher during a breast lift, without actually detaching it. This allows the nipple to be centered on the breasts instead of drooping downward, which can occur after pregnancy and breastfeeding.
  • Liposuction: As part of the Mommy Makeover procedure, I also use liposuction to selectively reduce fat deposits all over the body. This creates a leaner, more sculpted look overall. As part of the initial consultation, we discuss the specific areas that I will target with liposuction during the surgery.
  • A tummy tuck or abdominoplasty: During this part of the surgery, I fix a common post-pregnancy problem called diastasis rectus. This occurs when the left and right ab muscles separate, creating a tell-tale “pooch” that is virtually impossible to get rid of with diet and exercise alone. I close up this separation and remove excess abdominal skin—which is even more common when you’ve had twins or triplets. I also tighten the rounded mass of tissue, or mons pubis, over the pubic bones. The result of a tummy tuck is flatter, more youthful abs, without any visible scars

A tummy tuck can smooth out the tell-tale abdominal pooch that often occurs after pregnancy.

    2) You can be covered up during the winter months.

You will need to wear compression garments after a Mommy Makeover to facilitate healing and enhance the results. These medical compression garments—a special bra, abdominal support wrap, and compression garments for liposuction areas—apply much-needed pressure to help reduce swelling and discomfort and support the skin during healing.

These compression garments are made from strong, thick, synthetic fabrics. They can get uncomfortable in warmer weather and are best worn under loose, winter clothing during the cold-weather months.

    3) My schedule for Mommy Makeovers gets booked.

With busy offices in New York and the Hamptons, my calendar for surgery and particularly Mommy Makeovers gets booked quickly. Scheduling your consultation now is important so you can get on my calendar and have plenty of time for healing by summer.
