Injectable Filler Treatment For Under-Eye Circles

Lea Goldman, 35, is the editor for Marie Claire and in the current issue of the magazine shared her experiences in finding a solution for her dark under-eye circles.

According to Goldman the circles under her eyes were so bad they looked like deep purple half-moons or man hole covers. Because people told her she looked exhausted, frazzled and pale, Goldman thought her appearance led people to believe she didn’t have her act together.

In order to hide the circles she tried nearly every concealer available and wore glasses, though she doesn’t need them to see.

Finally, with nothing working for her she made an appointment with a well known physician in the fashion world. Even though Goldman get’s enough sleep each night, her doctor told her that she had only a small amount of fat or collagen below her eyes.

The dark circles were caused by the purple facial muscle being visible beneath the skin. Other factors are also associated with this type of appearance underneath the eyes.

Things such as smoking, drinking, dehydration, lack of sleep, and quick weight loss can also lead to the thinning and sagging of the eye. However, aging is ultimately the largest culprit of the dark, under-eye circles.

Dermal Fillers

Her doctor suggested that she use Restylane, which could minimize the appearance of the circles for up to a year. After her injections, Goldman’s circles were basically invisible when she would use concealer.

Restylane, along with Juvederm and Prevelle Silk, are hyaluronic acid fillers and are only one way to deal with the problem Goldman had. The American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery states that there are other treatments for the dark circles.

If the darkening of the eye is from eyelid “bags” lower eyelid surgery can improve the discoloration. If the surgery doesn’t completely solve the issue, a chemical peel or bleaching solution may be in order.
