This Charity Saves the Lives of Countless Animals

If you know our esteemed leader, board-certified plastic surgeon Tracy Pfeifer, MD, MS, you know that not only is she one of the top-rated plastic surgeons in New York City, she’s also a devoted animal lover.

Dr. Pfeifer is the mom of Casper, her almost all black cat. Casper was adopted from ARF, Animal Rescue Fund of the Hamptons, a no-kill shelter. Casper was initially adopted as a kitten but was given to the ARF when his first owner was incarcerated. Casper spent three of his first four years in the shelter. He was a bit hyper when he first came home but now is a sweet cuddle monster who wants to play, watch pigeons from his multiple window perches around the apartment, and snuggle on your lap.

The Best Friends Animal Society

It should come as no surprise then that Dr. Pfeifer is a big supporter of Best Friends Animal Society, a charity that saves the lives of countless animals. A 150-year-old non-profit organization and animal welfare society, Best Friends is the only animal rescue organization dedicated to ending all dog and cat killing by the year 2025.

In 1984, 17 million animals were killed in shelters. Since then remarkable progress has been made. The save rate is 76%. Last year, about 733,000 dogs and cats were killed in our nation’s animal shelters, simply because they didn’t have safe places to call home.

Best Friends is dedicated to the mission of Save Them All, ensuring that no pets are killed in shelters. The 2025 goal, that every pet have a home, is doable!

Located in Kanab, Utah, the Best Friends Animal Sanctuary—located on nearly 3,700 acres—is where about 1,600 animals are getting the love and help they need while they search for homes. It’s the largest no-kill sanctuary for companion animals (including cats, dogs, birds, rabbits, and more).
